3 Truths to Hold on to Through Tough Times

I have walked some valleys in my 32 years of life, but nothing knocked me off my feet like my divorce did. From a young age I experienced trauma, so adversity was not foreign to me at all. I am not entirely sure what made this storm different. Perhaps, it was that I was already in a vulnerable state of mind. I was a new mother struggling with postpartum depression, adjusting to my new role as a mother with no family support. Juggling my wife and new mom hat presented its challenges for me.
When I was faced with this giant, I made decisions people around me did not understand. My family practically begged for me to move back home for support, but I chose to stay and grow through my adversity. While I recognize that life would have been so much easier with family around, I also understood that obeying God in my valley would bless me on my mountain top.
This walk required me to not only press into him but to lean on God. There were many things I did to draw near to him. One of the things I do daily is remind myself of God’s truth. When I remind myself of his truths it helps ground me. It brings peace to my troubled heart and it builds my faith when it feels shaken. Here are three truths about God to help build your unshakeable faith.
1. He is a powerful God not a powerless God
“For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37 KJV)
He is the God of the impossible and the God of the miraculous. When we look at a situation and think there is “no way” “I can’t” God says, “I can” Remember his promises are always Yes and Amen. The New Living Translation says, “For the word of God will never fail.” Which means no one can defeat God, his power has no boundaries. Rest assured that God can and will turn your situation around. He is able! Believe it and receive it.
2. God’s promises always come to pass
“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19)
God is faithful, it’s who he is. His love, faithfulness and promises do not waver, ever! When you look at his track record God has proven time and time again that what he speaks always comes to pass. There is nothing that he will not do if he has spoken it over you. Great is his faithfulness, he is the God of the covenant.
3. God’s love is unfailing
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” (Jeremiah 31:13)
God’s. Love. Never. Fails. You hear me? His love never fails. There is nothing we can do that can make his love for us change. We may feel like our actions or choices changes how he loves us, truth is he loves us regardless. God knows our thoughts before we know them. That means he knows our thoughts, our decisions, our actions before they play out. If that does not diminish the love he has for us, nothing will. How comforting is it to know that nothing we do changes how he sees us or loves us.
Walking through this valley has shown me how resilient I really am, and it has humbled me. It was not always easy; in fact, it was one of the hardest things I have been through. Coming out of this divorce, this strong required me to not only press into God, but really lean on him. I urge you to seek God’s truth when you feel like your faith is wavering. Let his word, promises and truth build your unshakeable faith up. So, when the enemy tries to knock you off your feet you can boldly stand up and say “No, my God says”.
What truths will you boldly declare over your situation today?
